ABSTRACT

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the important legume crops and is cultivated in large-scale throughout Türkiye as well as the world. Ascochyta blight, caused by the fungal phytopathogen Ascochyta rabiei, is the leading reason for the highest yield losses among the diseases known for chickpea. The pathogen exhibits high genetic diversity in Türkiye. Therefore, resistancy using Sequence Tagged Microsatellite Site (STMS) markers related with the genes that provide resistant against Ascochyta blight was investigated for the 205 chickpea breeding lines grown in different parts of Türkiye. The analysis for Ascochyta blight resistance was performed using Ta2, Ta146 and Ts54. It was demonstrated that Ta2, Ts54 and Ta146 were the STMS markers having distinguishable features for the detection of Ascochyta blight resistance and were shown to be used in credible fashion for the selection of resistant chickpea breeding lines.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To construct a social loss indicator system based on the perspective of epidemic prevention and control against background of emerging major infectious diseases at the national, hospital, and individual levels, and to provide decision-making basis for public general hospitals to formulate prevention and control strategies for emerging major infectious diseases. Methods:Literatures published before December 23, 2020 were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Web of Science, Google Scholar with such keywords as " infectious diseases" " public health emergencies" " social losses" " COVID-19" " evaluation". Then a preliminary social loss indicator system of public general hospitals for emerging major infectious diseases was constructed from such dimensions as country, hospital, and individual, by implementing literature analysis and expert consultation. Based on such a preliminary system, three questionnaires were designed for the country, hospitals, and individuals and the corresponding data were collected from December 25, 2021 to May 20, 2022. In the end, a factor analysis was made on the questionnaire data to optimize the social loss indicator system and determine the weights of each indicator. Results:The social loss indicator system consists of 14 level-1 indicators and 60 level-2 indicators. Level-1 indicators at country aspect consisted of government governance capacity, direct economic losses, social security, online public opinion, indirect economic losses, and international cooperation; indicators at hospital aspect consisted of hospital manpower, material resources, and information resources, hospital services, and hospital operations; indicators at the individual aspect consisted of physical health, psychological and social health, and external environment. Level-1 indicators of the highest weight at all aspects were social security, manpower, material and information resources, as well as physiological health. And the level-2 indicators of the highest weight were high medical expenses, overwork for staff other than doctors and nurses and medical insurance. Conclusions:The social loss indicator system for emerging major infectious diseases constructed in this study proves scientific and reasonable, helpful for the formulation of prevention and control strategies of public general hospitals.

ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disorder which is metabolically disrupted associated with several complications, which include retinopathy, nephropathy, angiopathy, and neuropathy. Angiopathy and neuropathy caused by DM have been considered important factor for vestibulocochlear disorder found in these patients. Aims and Objectives: The study was done to compare sensory-neural hearing losses (SNHL) in Type 2 diabetics with healthy individuals. To find out effect of age of individual on hearing, how glycemic control of diabetes affects hearing acuity which frequencies of hearing affected by diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted on 30 Type 2 diabetics and 30 healthy individuals are takes as controls in the age group of 30–60 years. Selection of individuals is done based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. All patients are asked for detailed history and their detailed clinical examination is done. After this, all patients are investigated for HbA1C. All subjects underwent pure tone audiometry and findings were recorded and analyzed. Results: The diabetics with SNHL are 90% when compared to the control are 60% which is highly significant (P = 0.017). Diabetes patients had hearing losses which are insidious in nature which is gradually progressive and affects hearing in both the sides. The audiogram of diabetics was suggestive of mild to moderately severe SNHL which was more toward higher frequencies. SNHL is aggravated with increasing age. In non-diabetic, SNHL is mainly due to age, but in diabetic, SNHL is mainly due to poorer control of diabetes not only due to age. Conclusion: The Type 2 diabetic patients had hearing losses at higher threshold more significantly which is bilateral, mild to moderately severe SNHL as compared to healthy individual of similar age. The glycemic control-HbA1C has significant correlation with severity of hearing loss. SNHL is more significant in patients whom had poor glycemic control.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Chile is a high producer and consumer of eggs, being considered the fifth consumer of eggs in Latin America. However, there are no data on production chain egg losses. The objective of this study was to survey information about egg losses at the national level, by consulting egg producers and traders and to review information about alternative uses of waste eggs with a focus on eggshells. It was estimated that at the farm level, losses range from 0.5 to 5% and during commercialization from 0.5% to 16.6%. Eighty percent of the producers consulted discarded eggshells, and 63% of total producers were not aware of products based on waste eggs. The main use of waste eggs in Chile is for animal feed; pasteurized liquid or powdered eggs. At the international level, efforts are being made to develop new options for alternative uses of waste eggs, and more studies are needed to quantify economic losses at the farm level and to promote the reuse of waste eggs, adding value to them and reducing waste.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Excess of water head usually is misidentified as synonymous of good service, leading to water losses in the distribution network. Reducing excess of pressure and identify leaks using tools like Geographic Information Systems and computational simulations is essential to reduce water losses. The study was carried out simulating a real water distribution system in a mountainous city of south of Minas Gerais, with Geographic Information Systems survey of the region and three simulations using the Epanet software, one of which being the original scenario to compare with improved ones. Subsequently, maps using Geographic Information Systems assess pressure and modifications at the network were generated. A populational projection with a 20-year horizon, starting in 2020, was also carried out to assess whether energy efficiency indicators would decrease over time with the increase in population. The losses at base scenario and scenarios 32 and 35 was 57.4, 48.2, and 46.6%, showing a reduction in losses along pressure reduction, and energy efficiency indicators showed a decrease over the studied horizon, though still acceptable. This article concludes that the use of Geographic Information Systems applied to the water distribution network contributed to the analysis to reduce real losses and water and energy efficiency in water distribution networks.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

This report aims to discuss the occurrence of protozoan infestation in a Girolanda cattle herd in the state of Bahia / BA. Bovine trypanosomiasis is a severe disease that is harmful to cattle, inducing large productive and economic losses. The animals are affected by protozoa of the genus Trypanosoma spp., giving rise to infestations in the vast majority of them in a silent and lasting way. In the Bahian rural property described, 10% of adult cows died and the rest of the animals showed clinical signs of anemia, drop in milk production, low body score, apathy, among others. Among the information obtained through the farm manager, who helped in the diagnosis and in ordering tests for the respective disease were: purchase of cattle from the region of the state of Minas Gerais and dubious management of oxytocin for improvements in milk production (suspected shared needles). Faced with the suspicion and in conjunction with the information obtained, laboratory tests and molecular tests were carried out to confirm the suspicion. After the examinations, it was found that the animals were affected by protozoa of the genus Trypanossoma vivax. The animals were treated with volume replenishers and drugs such as isometamidium chloride in a single dose calculated according to the body weight.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Freshwater use charging as an economic instrument must guide users as to the value of water resources and encourage the struggle against wasteful use. Recent methodologies include mechanisms related to good practices in the use of water resources, measured in sanitation sector by the indicator of percentage losses in distribution. However, leakages that occurred in the previous stages are ignored, as well as the essentiality of the service for society. Using variables that cover the entire supply system since withdrawn point, this paper proposes a freshwater charging methodology that conceptually expand and penalizes real losses, while imputing discounts resulting from the water use to supply a minimum volume to meet basic needs of the population. The result is a simple and transparent equation, with homogeneity in the variables charged, which might have the punishment and privileges adjusted to the specificities of the watershed in which it is applied.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The Family Health Strategy (ESF) is organized on a territorial basis, considering the local characteristics and enabling teams to know the profile of their clientele and situations experienced in their daily lives. In recent years, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro has expanded the ESF to highly vulnerable territories and has approached to areas where urban violence is strongly present. The objective was to understand if the Home Visit (VD) remains as a possible tool for ESF, in contexts of urban violence. A qualitative study was carried out, using interviews with semi structured script and content analysis. The results indicate that the VD is, primarily, aimed to search for users with some limitation of access, restriction to the bed or domicile. According to professionals reports, frequent situations such as police incursions, armed clashes between police and drug dealers, the presence of caveirões and the sound of shots and bombs, are limiting for the accomplishment of VD. The quality of care provided is impaired and activities in territory suffer great losses, bringing fear and insecurity, including to professionals. The ESF consolidates itself as a service close to territories marked by urban violence, facing daily challenges for application of its tools, especially the RV.

ABSTRACT

The porpuse of the present study is to go through fragments of Margarita's analysis, from the age of five to thirteen, considering the playing theme as the central axis. The interpretation was made from a sequence of sessions articulated with significant elements of her story which allow us to think in theoretical, technical and clinical terms of the playful work (if any) and the possibility of making approximations about the how, the why of it and the type of game. At the same time, it aims to reflect on the vicissitudes of the current clinic: Would Margarita's virtual approach be possible if it had developed during pandemic? In accordance with this way of thinking, the particularities of the case and the different moments of the therapeutic process are considered. It is proposed to hypothesize and infer not only what is possible, but also the limits and obstacles of this resource(AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract Slaughter condemnations are important sources of information on cattle health. The incidence of bovine parasitic diseases is still very high in Brazil. These diseases, in addition to causing harm to the animals health, are neglected zoonotic diseases in several parts of world. The study analysed not only the Carcass losses, but also the economic damage resulting from slaughter condemnations due to parasitic causes. Cattle slaughter data from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), over the period of 2012 to 2015 and data from the Secretary of Livestock and Irrigation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (SEAPI-RS) were analyzed between 2014 and 2018.The number of organs and carcasses condemned was multiplied by the respective values (in Brazilian Real) obtained from slaughterhouses and subsequently converted into dollars. Brazilian analysis in SIF (Federal Inspection System) establishments showed that more than 1.2 million organs (3,884,505 kg) and 20,000 carcasses (4,547,718 kg) were condemned only due to parasitic causes during post-mortem inspection. In Rio Grande do Sul, in state inspection establishments, more than 1.7 million organs (8,210,559 kg) and 5,000 carcasses (1,243,200 kg) were condemned. These data are alarming and support the need for public policies to control these parasitic diseases.

ABSTRACT

Determining if reproductive failures in ewes at the semiarid region in the state of Bahia are related to the consumption of the species Cenostigma pyramidale (Tul.) Gagnon & G.P. Lewis, and this study was developed using pregnant ewes divided into six groups: G1, G2, G3, G4 with six animals each, G5 and G6 with ten animals. Each group received fence leaves in the proportion of 1%, 2%, 0.5%, and 0.25% of live weight (LW) respectively; G5 and G6, with ten animals each, receiving 0.25% and 0.5% of the LW, respectively, and the Control Group, comprising 16 ewes, were grass feeding (Cynodon dactylon). Ewes from G1 to G4 were the same, except for two, and started ingestion of the plant four days after ending of natural mating on the 80th day of gestation, while those regarding from G5 to G6 groups started ingestion on the 26th day of gestation ending on the 98 day. The ultrasonographic test was performed weekly. In G1 ewes (1%), there was an embryonic loss on the 32nd and 39th days of gestation and abortion on the 46th day. In G2 (2%), the embryo loss was earlier (on the 26th day of gestation), and abortion on the 46th day of gestation. In G3 group (0.5%), there was an embryonic loss around the 40th day of gestation. In G4 group (0.25%), it was observed the occurrence of one death lamb with bone malformations. In G6 (0.5%), abortion occurred later (108 days), followed by retained placenta. This was also verified in G5 group (0.25%). The presence of fetal malformation was found in death lambs born in G4 group, born alive from G5 and G6 groups, and one aborted from G6. In G5 and G6 groups, there were also genetic alterations on surviving lambs. In addition to these results, recurrent estrus was observed without gestation in G1, G2, G3, and G4 ewes. From the Control Group, 13 normal lambs were born without genetic alterations; furthermore, concerning a quadruple birth, three lambs were born dead. The results infer that species of C. pyramidale in low doses causes reproductive losses in pregnant ewes, therefore it is not recommended for sheep diet over the first 60 days of gestation.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The aim of present investigation was the assessment of the several new onion hybrids develop through three- way cross along with their parents for having less problem of weight losses due to sprouting and rotting, and long storage quality at normal room temperature and relative humidity. The design of experimental plot was complete randomized block design (CRBD) with three replications. This study was carried out in the year of 2018-2019 at Division of Vegetable Crops, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru, India. Thirty hybrids developed by three- way cross, thirteen parental lines and one check have been included for the experiment. Three F1 hybrids used as female lines and ten commercial varieties used as male testers, were taken to develop the hybrids through line x tester design. The bulbs of all these genotypes were kept for four months in normal storage chamber at 25-30°C room temperature with 65-70% relative humidity. The overall losses of per cent bulb weigh was recorded and conclude that the three-way hybrids TWCHO-15 (26.91) were recorded for smallest amount of loss followed by TWCHO-5 (27.02), TWCHO-14 (28.83) and TWCHO-4 (29.98). These hybrids can be suggested for more profit to onion grower by keeping for long shelf-life.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Piercing/sucking insect pests in the order Hemiptera causes substantial crop losses by removing photoassimilates and transmitting viruses to their host plants. Cloning and heterologous expression of plantderived insect resistance genes is a promising approach to control aphids and other sap-sucking insect pests. While expression from the constitutive 35S promoter provides broad protection, the phloem-specific rolC promoter provides better defense against sap sucking insects. The selection of plant-derived insect resistance genes for expression in crop species will minimize bio-safety concerns. RESULTS: Pinellia ternata leaf agglutinin gene (pta), encodes an insecticidal lectin, was isolated and cloned under the 35S and rolC promoters in the pGA482 plant transformation vector for Agrobacterium-mediated tobacco transformation. Integration and expression of the transgene was validated by Southern blotting and qRT-PCR, respectively. Insect bioassays data of transgenic tobacco plants showed that expression of pta under rolC promoter caused 100% aphid mortality and reduced aphid fecundity up to 70% in transgenic tobacco line LRP9. These results highlight the better effectivity of pta under rolC promoter to control phloem feeders, aphids. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggested the potential of PTA against aphids and other sap sucking insect pests. Evaluation of gene in tobacco under two different promoters; 35S constitutive promoter and rolC phloemspecific promoter could be successfully use for other crop plants particularly in cotton. Development of transgenic cotton plants using plant-derived insecticidal, PTA, would be key step towards commercialization of environmentally safe insect-resistant crops.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background: Dry matter (DM) loss is high in sugarcane silage due to its high content of soluble carbohydrates which favors yeast growth and ethanol production, thus reducing the nutritional value of the preserved forage. Objective: To determine the effect of adding two types of urea at two concentration levels to sugarcane silage on the nutritional value and fermentative characteristics of the silage. Methods: A completely randomized 2×2+1 factorial design was used, based on two types of urea (conventional and protected), two urea concentration (0.5 and 1.0% of the natural matter), and a control (sugarcane silage with no additives). Six replicates were used. The mixture was placed in PVC silos and opened after 60 days. Results: There was no difference in DM content or effluent losses by the addition of urea. In regards to neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and lignin, decreased levels were observed compared to the control, regardless of urea type. Urea type and concentration had an effect on ammoniacal nitrogen content, with higher values for conventional urea, but not affecting the pH. The addition of urea to sugarcane silage reduced gas losses and raised the levels of crude protein, ether extract, and effective degradability. Conclusion: Adding protected or conventional urea at 1% of natural matter at the time of sugarcane ensiling reduces gas losses and improves nutritional composition of the silage.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Some Bacillus spp. plant growth promoters are microorganisms recognized as biological control agents, which form a resistance structure called endospore, which allows them to survive in hostile environments and be in almost all agroecosystems. These microorganisms have been reported as an alternative to the use of agrochemicals. Its mechanisms of action can be divided into: production of antimicrobial compounds, such as non-ribosomal peptides (NRPs) and polyketides (PKs); hormone production, colonization capacity, biofilm formation and competition for space and nutrients; synthesis of lytic enzymes such as chitinases, glucanases, protesases and acyl homoserin lactonases (AHSL); production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); and induction of systemic resistance (SRI). These mechanisms have been reported in the literature in several studies, mainly carried out in vitro. However, there are few studies that contemplate the interaction within the tritrophic system: plant - pathogenic microorganisms -Bacillus sp. (biocontrol agent), in vivo level. It is important to note that the Bacillus biocontrol activity is different when studied under laboratory conditions, which are biased to achieve maximum expression of the mechanisms of action. On the other hand, at the in vivo level, the interaction with the plant and the pathogen play a fundamental role in the expression of said mechanisms of action, being this closer to the real field situation. This review focuses on the mechanisms of action of the Bacillus promoters of plant growth, expressed under the interaction with the plant and the pathogen.
